Miami's oldest bar starts crowdfunding efforts with hopes of raising $2M

The staff of Tobacco Road, Miami’s oldest bar, is pooling money together with hopes of buying the bar and moving around the corner.

Tobacco Road’s existing lease at 626 South Miami Avenue expires next year, so the owners of the 101-year-old bar and about 30 staffers are working on raising $2 million to buy the business, South Florida Business Journal reported, citing information from Miami.com.

The group plans to launch crowdfunding initiatives in which donors would receive gift cards, shirts, event tickets and other rewards. If successful, the bar would relocate to a nearby location at 69 Southwest Seventh Street.

Co-owner Patrick Gleber told Miami.com he hopes enough money is raised to allow a sale of the bar by the end of 2014. [South Florida Business Journal] — Eric Kalis
